Hearty congratulations and heart felt thanks to all event participants. You helped to establish a second marathon in Chicago and hung tough on a most challenging day. Way to go. Chicago now has a spring marathon, thanks to you!

2002 Lakeshore Marathon Results
Bravo participants! You persevered on a cold, wet and windy day. As recorded in the Chicago Tribune, the event experienced 5' to 7' waves, 30 mph winds, and 30-degree temperatures. By all accounts, the inaugural Lakeshore Marathon was one of the most difficult urban marathons on record. Wow, great job! We're very proud of your effort and accomplishment.

1548 marathon runners from 407 cities, across 36 states and 14 countries formally registered to participate in the inaugural Lakeshore Marathon.

Lakeshore Marathon Tree Planting Program
The Lakeshore Marathon aims to help plant as many as 10,000 trees each year. In 2002, Blue Spruce sapling trees were provided to all event participants and extra trees were distributed through Pierce Elementary School and Senn High School on Chicago's north side. As a result, over 2000 trees were distributed in the programs first year. Thank you for being part of the tree planting initiative!

Contributions to Team USA Distance Running
The Lakeshore Marathon contributes to Team USA Distance Running Training Centers through a Running USA Support Program. In 2002, contributions are going to help support Team USA Distance Running Training Centers in the Midwest. Thanks for helping to support Team USA!

Please share your account of your Lakeshore Marathon experience. You're part of running history, so let's be sure we document your account.

Five respondents will receive a free entry in the 2003 Lakeshore Marathon and twenty will receive a free, long-sleeve commemorative shirt. To contribute your personal experience, please send in your account of your experience by June 30th.

Photo Contest
Did you or anyone you know take pictures at the inaugural Lakeshore Marathon? Those pictures may win you a free entry to the 2003 Lakeshore Marathon, or Official Merchandise. The Lakeshore Marathon is looking for pictures that capture the event, complete with the drama and emotion of the day!

Five respondents will receive a free entry in the 2003 Lakeshore Marathon and twenty will receive a free, long-sleeve commemorative shirt. Please submit your photos by June 30th. Digital photos or prints are both acceptable for submission to the contest.
